Introduce yourself

Postby LouPapy » Mon Oct 27, 2008 3:33 pm

Hi all,

I didn't see any "Introduce yourself" thread on this forum, like you can see in any other forum. And in general I never do it, I never introduce myself, but just because I wasn't asked, I felt the urge to do it.
I'm not really going to talk about myself, who cares. I just wanted to say how I ended up here.
Since the beginning of October I'm the proud owner of an Archos 5. Yes Proud !
Of course as any Archos owner I encountered a few trouble along the way, which lead me to join a few forum, (more to receive sympathy from over than to fix problem) and of course I joined Archosfan (now you all know why I'm here).

I lasted 2 days. After which, Charbax called me a moron and deleted many of my post as well as the thread from other trying to stand up to him. That was fun.
Anyway, thanks to Thelo666 advice, I found this forum and I'm looking forward to tell you all about my forthcoming Archos trouble.

Cheerio.

I share the same story. The other forum was deleting any post that slightly was negative against Charbax's employer. So I finally had enough and told him off. I ended up having my IP banned :D

Good people here.

Absolutely. So far this forum has far better general discussion, its just a shame theres not the volume of posts yet to rival AF (yet). Hopefully it wont take long for our old mate to p*ss off enough people to come join here.

I know over on AF the main members here's names are mud, with old Charbax labelling them (us) trolls and whatnot, but theres far less trolling going on over here than over there, so I know where I prefer to post. Unless I'm in the mood for trolling of course.... ;)

Anyways, as this is an "introduce yourself" type of thing, I'll do that.

Bought a 605 160GB last year, had the full kit - DVR, Battery, Web, Podcast and Cinema plugins. Saw the "5", thougth it looked mighty purdy, and looked at the free space on my 605 (about 130Mb), so ebayed off the 605, and bought the 5. Cant say Ive regretted it that much, but I use it primarily as a video player, so no music playback, no internet, nothing more than video. Keep hoping for Archos to release some mighty new firmware that will make "the best thing ever", but I'm a realist. All I can really hope for rigt now is that they do release the HD plugin (you know, because a lot of us have paid for it already), the FM remote (so I can stop getting so many fingerprints on my screen), and the battery dock (so I can at least output to a TV on my jollies - sad isnt it - went to India this year - the Taj Mahal was pretty good, but I couldnt wait to get home and watch a couple of Steven Seagal movies......).

As for me personally - I'm a software developer based in London, working in .net 3.5, recently moved teams from a group who handled all the video transcoding for a major website, to something less impressive sounding, but far more interesting. I'd tell you who I worked for but I'd have to kill you unfortunately. Or you'd attempt to kill me.

So hello.......!

I didn't see any "Introduce yourself" thread on this forum

Perhaps this would be the perfect time to start one so! Ill sticky this thread in the off-topic forum.

Lets not turn this thread into another bitching session about Charbax and AF, but for the sake of Archos' image, it is worth noting that he is in no way associated with Archos beyond his somewhat unhealthy obsession, and he definately isnt an employee of Archos.
